Spring has come to the Museum !

As Historians and botanists know this is a special time along the river.  As the pioneers and early settlers knew this was a wonderful place to settle and live.  See some of the remaining joys that have been restored and are being restored along the waterway from the view that Hiram Scutt, his family and friends saw and lived with daily.

Visit the museum and learn about the early plantings and the early grasses and trees.  Learn about the natural trees that grew and how we have gotten away from nuturing those trees and plants and how this is affecting the ecology of our area.

April 18th Sunday will Focus on the Plants and Trees

Our Tea on April 18th will focus on the natural plants and trees and how they grew along the river when the early settlers came here.  It will identify the trees and how the evolution of them and how the "refined" people eventually cut these trees down and the price we are now paying for the loss of these trees and plants. You will also hear of Seth's fight to prevent the loss of these wonderful old trees in his yard and others and of his love of these wonderful "giants" that live not only decades but centuries.  Cost for tea and program is $15.00.

The Life of the Wife of the Victorian Wife

Maybe she had servents to help but her life certainly was not simple!  The wife of Mrs. Hiram B. Scutt was not an easy simple life to be sure.  There was no gas or electric stove, no Dyson vacuum cleaner, no nice front load washer and no dryer, no dish washer, no WalMart to pick up laundry soap from, no produce market, no quick place to pick up a dress or anything else you needed.  She had to depend on her Godays Magazine, then find the fabric, hope she could find the right dressmaker, and that the dressmaker could fit her and get the dress done in time for her.  Now ironically most dresses were not made like you think.  But we have many things to show everyone at the museum.  From the linens, to the cleaning, to the kitchen and much more come and visit us to learn about the life of the "every day House wife" Mrs. Hiram B. Scutt and learn about her trials and thrills and heart break of being married to one of the wealthiest men who ever lived in Joliet.
Cost of the program and tea is $15.00  The Museum is open from 1 to 4 PM plan to spend most of the afternoon at the museum to include the tea, tour, program and question and answer period.
